9/11 Tribute Event Honors Bergen County, N.J., K-9 Unit
A&P and Nestle Purina PetCare Donate $5,000 to Local Police Dog Team
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. – September 13, 2012 – The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A&P) and Nestle Purina PetCare paid tribute to the search dogs of Bergen County for the key role they played in the recovery efforts on Sept. 11, 2001. For the second year in a row, Bergen County authorities were presented with a $5,000 check from Nestle Purina PetCare on behalf of A&P for their team’s heroic deeds.
“We are honored and proud to be a part of this 9/11 tribute event,” said Sam Martin, A&P’s President and CEO. “This ceremony not only shows our strong commitment to the local community but also our respect for the four-legged heroes that risk their lives to save others.”
At the afternoon event, two K-9 dogs wowed the audience during a live police dog demonstration held in the parking lot of the Woodcliff Lake A&P store. According to Sergeant David Donow, some of the dogs are trained to sniff out bombs and others are taught to detect narcotics. “Thanks to the generous support of Purina and A&P, we’ll be able to purchase and train another search dog to further serve the community,” said Donow.
Event attendees were treated to free hot dogs, snacks and giveaways, courtesy of A&P. In addition, the Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge showcased some animals that are up for adoption.
Purina also gave out complimentary pet products and information about pet care. “We are dedicated to providing the best products for pets,” said Purina spokesperson Kristen Zeek. “Our partnership with A&P shows how much we care for and support pet lovers in the communities they serve.”
