A&P Teams Up With The Salvation Army and 107.5 WBLS for Hurricane Sandy Event

MONTVALE, NJ – March 14, 2013 – The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, Inc. (A&P) today announced its partnership with The Salvation Army and radio station 107.5 WBLS to hold a food drive for Hurricane Sandy victims on Friday, March 22.

“Our company continues to be committed to rebuilding our neighborhoods and our stores,” said Sam Martin, president and CEO of A&P. “This joint effort will allow us to better assist those who are still recovering from the impact of Hurricane Sandy.”

Salvation Army trucks will be stationed in the front of four local stores to collect non-perishable goods from shoppers. To immediately help those in need, A&P also donated more than 200 gift cards to The Salvation Army.  

“Whether it’s Kettles at Christmas or helping to provide food for people in need throughout the year, The Salvation Army of Greater New York and New Jersey are so grateful for all that A&P has done to help support people in their local communities,” said Major Vicki Berry, associate New Jersey divisional commander.

The WBLS promotions team will be on hand to generate excitement and promote the food drive in the store parking lots and on the air. Donations of the following items are requested:

  • Cereals
  • Pasta
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Oatmeal
  • Peanut Butter
  • Shelf Stable Milk or Powder Milk
  • Rice
  • Canned Soups
  • Canned Fish/Meat
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Canned Fruits

“WBLS is proud to partner with A&P and The Salvation Army to help people affected by Hurricane Sandy,” said Deon Levingston, vice president and general manager of 107.5 WBLS and 1190 WLIB.  “We have been on the front line of this recovery effort, and it’s our honor to conduct this food drive to support the community.”

The food drive will take place in the following locations on Friday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

  • Pathmark located on 1764 Grand Ave., Baldwin, N.Y. 11510
  • Waldbaum’s located on 112-15 Beach Channel Drive, Belle Harbor, N.Y. 11694
  • Pathmark located on 405 State Route 17 S., Hackensack, N.J. 07601
  • A&P located on 907D Oak Tree Road, South Plainfield, N.J. 07080
